Nerds Herds-The 70’s Party Mixes

The 70’s were a time. So I’m told. My father enjoyed his college extra-curriculars and putting together the party hotspots was one of them. Recently two of his old 8-Track mixes come up during house cleaning and I’ve reassembled the track playlists. Judging by the track release dates it was pre-Magic Johnson winning the 78-79 National Championship at Michigan State. They might even pre-date legendary coach Jud Heathcote himself (Gus Ganakas coached until 1976). Dad loves sharing the stories of…

Jesus Christ Superstar-Quick Review

Jesus Christ Superstar (50th year anniversary) in the Warton Center on Michigan State’s campus was the first live rock opera I’d ever attended. In 2020 the live TV special aired featuring singer/rapper Common as Jesus and Alice Cooper as King Herod. The performance was entertaining and it was enjoyable to see recognizable personalities in a rock opera. I was interested in seeing the live performance live when my mom notified me that it was coming to town and she wanted…

Breaking Benjamin: A Multi-Concert Attendee Experience

It didn’t take much to talk me into checking out Breaking Benjamin’s 2023 tour stop in Michigan at Van Andel Arena. Ticket prices weren’t horrific and the top row of the arena wasn’t even open for seating. So it was essentially a small arena tour. My close friend, Leslie, was itching for an activity and her husband was going to watch the kids for the evening, so I packed string cheese, and a few car ride snacks, and we set…

-Originally published 12/13/20- https://open.spotify.com/playlist/18yq8LND4hfKMdeXkTAwCo?si=9deb861f79e14db5 With have three notable releases his week. Man on the Moon III: The Chosen One is Kid Cudi’s big album return. Taylor Swift released evermore, what she refers to as the “sister” to folklore earlier this year. For fan purposes, it’s the missing double-disk with 15 tracks additional tracks in the same tonality as folklore’s 17 tracks. The instrumentals are filled with piano and strings and both albums are closer to folk than her 2019 pop album Lover. Cudi worked with Kanye West on the 2018…

Fresh Squeezed🍊Playlists: Fresh Squeezed Volume 5🍊

-Originally published 12/7/20- https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5iFXbQki63mrF7sVein4qx?si=9e4c562985324b24 The album releases have been light in the past couple weeks.  Miley Cyrus has several standouts on Plastic Hearts. Her raspy, gravely vocals are phenomenal in an array rock/pop/punk. She’s come a long way from generic bubble gum pop music. Shawn Mendes fourth album Wonder is out following the singles Monster with Justin Bieber and the album’s title track being dropped prior to the albums released. Most of the album is bland and unmoving. It’s a very disappointing album that doesn’t seem to showcase…

The deluxe release titled: F*CK LOVE (SAVAGE) adds quality tracks to the extended album including features with Machine Gun Kelly and Youngboy Never Broke Again. T.I.’s eleventh studio album The L.I.B.R.A (The Legend Is Back Running Atlanta) is his first in two years and only the second release the past six from the Atlanta rapper. Not ground-breaking but another solid project and…

It certainly seems like his forthcoming album could feature some ballads with a name like Certified Lover Boy. Dua Lipa and DaBaby have a fun collaboration in Levitating. Blackbear is getting a push recently and appears on Hate The Way, G-Eazy’s new single. Blackbear will appear on more playlists to come. Alicia…
