What a busy couple weeks in music. We have new tracks from Kanye, City Girls, Wale, Craig David, Diplo, Kevin Gates, Iann Dior, a Miley Cyrus/Dua Lipa collab, Shawn Medes/Justin Bieber collab, Billie Ellish, Lil Nas X and a slew of others.
DaBaby and Meek Mill both slide out new packs of songs this week. DaBaby released the 7 track My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G) which includes collaboration between the two. Meek released the 4 track QUARANTINE PACK. The first non-feature collection of music from he’s released since 2018.
Future and Lil Uzi Vert’s teased collaboration this summer was shot down and turned into two tracks, Patek and Over Your Head. Fast forward a few months and a full length collaborative project did drop with the two summer songs added as bonus tracks to the deluxe release of Pluto x Baby Pluto. The project drags in its 20+ songs in the deluxe but there are still bangers as always provided by the two.
Continuing the conversation of hot artists? Megan Thee Stallion released Good News. How about other collaborations? Rich the Kid and YoungBoy Never Broke Again had to get in on the trend with Nobody Safe. Megan has been dropping singles from her project for awhile so it not all new but she continues to roll out bangers. Rich and YoungBoy are almost interchangeable on their new project. Its not the most exciting collaborating but there is some good production that provides some standout tracks. Atlanta’s veterans are lining up this fall with new releases. Following T.I.’s The L.I.B.R.A. release in October is 2 Chainz with So Help Me God! And Jeezy with The Recession 2. 2 Chainz continues weave more of a soul sound into his music, different than his earlier work. Jeezy has evolved into more of a mello storyteller at this point in his career with a focus on social issues.
New York state representatives French Montana and Saint Jhn have new releases. I’m not the biggest Montana fan but he returns to his roots with CB5 (Coke Boys 5) a solid project. The criminally underrated singer/rapper Saint Jhn’s third album While The World Was Burning continues to feature the artists song writing and storytelling ability. He pulls features from Kanye West, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, 6lack, and Kehlani.
I had to do a double-take when I saw the track listing for Kiiara’s lil kiwi. Tracks like Feels, Whippin, and Gold have been hits for years. This is actually Kiiara’s DEBUT album. It’s exciting to see someone that’s been releasing hits since 2015 finally get there due with a real full-length debut album. An exciting project and a culmination of years of effort, this is a must-listen.
A Day To Remember’s Brick Wall is the first release since 2016. A four-track EP meant to hold fans over until the planned 2021 You’re Welcome album release. The EP brings all the elements expected from ADTR and is a solid teaser for the March album release.
